Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps in order. Takes about 5–10 minutes from start to finish.

  • Step 1: For most smart bulbs (Hue, LIFX, Govee, Kasa): turn the bulb on, then rapidly switch off and on 5 times using the wall switch, leaving 1 second between each toggle.
  • Step 2: The bulb will flash or pulse 3 times to confirm a successful factory reset. If it doesn't flash, try 6-8 rapid toggles.
  • Step 3: For Philips Hue bulbs: use the Hue app → Settings → Lights → select the light → Delete. Or use a Hue Dimmer Switch held near the bulb.
  • Step 4: For LIFX bulbs: power cycle 5 times with 1-second intervals. The bulb flashes white to confirm. Then re-add in the LIFX app.
  • Step 5: For bulbs that won't reset with the switch method: check the manufacturer's app — most apps have a "Factory Reset" option in device settings.
  • Step 6: After reset, open the brand's app and add the bulb as new. The bulb will appear as unconfigured and ready to set up fresh.
